We were honoured to have Prof. Surya Banerjee, University of Waterloo interacting with students of classes 11 and 12 on 16th October. The session was extremely fascinating and productive as Prof. Surya highlighted the significance of Mathematics in life. He vividly explained the magic of Mathematics in decision making and its role in various facets of life.
Prof. Surya Banerjee is a professor in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences at the University of Waterloo. He has been teaching Statistics, Mathematics, Economics and Finance courses here and elsewhere for the past 20 years. Through his academic career, he has lived and worked in three continents, working in a range of universities– from start-ups to long-established ones. He was one of the Coordinators and Curriculum Designers of the School of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Nigeria, the first Western style university in sub-Saharan Africa, which now educates thousands in West Africa.. He also taught at other institutions like McGill University (Montreal, QC), Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) among others.
In the University of Waterloo, Surya is the Director of the Mathematical Economics program, one of the majors under the Math-Business umbrella. He is responsible for advising and mentoring students towards their degree. Previously, he was positioned as the Deputy Director, University of Waterloo (UAE), where he was jointly in charge for the academic well being of the entire campus.
