Curtain Raiser: 16 Schools, 30 Matches in 7 zones commences at DPS BANGALORE SOUTH wherein the finalist will take home the most coveted trophy beating the 15 qualifying teams selected to compete in the DPS National Basketball Tournament for boys 2019. In Pool A are the following teams – DPS Bangalore South, DPS Jalandhar, DPS Jodhpur, DPS Ranipur; DPS Bhopal, DPS Roorkee, DPS Bulandshahr, DPS Prayagraj in Pool B; DPS Faridabad, DPS Kashi, DPS Indore and DPS Megcity in Pool C; DPS Amritsar, DPS Bokaro, DPS Gurgaon and DPS Sonepat in Pool D. DPS Bangalore South being the host school wore a festive look since morning today that promised fair opportunity to every team to showcase their prowess on the basket ball court. Principal, Mrs Manju Sharma, addressed the assemblage by extending a warm welcome to all the DPS Schools and motivating them to make the best use of this platform by being a fine example of sportsmanship. Followed by the flag hoisting, oath taking by the teams, referees and coaches of all the participating schools, the event began with the inauguration ceremony graced by the chief guest Dr Saini, Director DPS Society. Dr Saini inspired the participants with his words of wisdom on how important it is for an individual to strike a balance being a student and sportsman at the same time. He also shared with the students secret of success that is built on 5 Ds – Desire, Determination, Direction, Decision and Destination. Following this, he declared the tournament open.  The day kicked off with the league matches between schools with four teams making a mark already – DPS Bangalore South, DPS Roorkee,

DPS Prayagraj and DPS Megacity as they drive closer to fulfilling their objectives. The objective of School Sports is the enrichment of experiences of students within the context of the academic mission of schools. Other objectives are sportsmanship, fair play, teamwork, respect and welfare of all students. It is an undoubted fact that Basketball develops physical fitness. It is intense, fast-paced action of a typical basketball game that helps in developing speed, hand-eye coordination and cardiovascular endurance. As all the teams compete to qualify for the semi-final and final on 20 November 2019, the stage has been set to facilitate participants with every opportunity to enable them inch closer to their goal.
