The Reading Activity by Tiny Tots of DPS South

There was a sense of anticipation among the students as they saw their teachers set up their table with hands on objects available around the class room.

“IT WAS THE EXPERIMENT DAY”. The children were looking forward to experiment the new concept of heavy and light. The concept was first introduced orally by the teacher after which the experiment was visually demonstrated. Along with HEAVY/LIGHT, the concept of FLOAT/SINK was also demonstrated.

Materials used – Pebbles, coin, leaf, feather, pencil, eraser, paper etc.

A bowl of water was taken . Various objects were dropped into the water to see if they float or sank. The kids also individually performed the experiment. The heavier objects sank and the lighter ones floated on water re-in forcing the concept.

The kids enjoyed thoroughly and understood the concept well.

Similarly, the consecutive week had the concept of FULL/EMPTY introduced through similar simple hands on experiment. It was a great way of enthusiastically involving kids in the learning process and conveying the concept successfully.
