Delhi Public School, Bangalore, South hosted the prestigious CBSE Cluster Basketball Tournament 2023 from the 28th to the 31st of October this year.

Every year CBSE organizes sports events at Cluster/Zonal and National levels for its independent category of schools. This was a significant platform for children from various CBSE schools to display their skills, passion, and dedication to the sport. Sports transcend boundaries and this was a wonderful opportunity that brought various teams together in a spirit of discipline, dedication, and teamwork.
The event started with the opening ceremony and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. International Basketball player was the Chief Guest and Shri Ramesh Menon, Regional Officer, CBSE, Bengaluru, was the esteemed Guest of Honour Shri Ramesh Menon, Regional Officer CBSE Bengaluru, accompanied by Assistant Secretary Shri Mohanan KV and CBSE Observer, Shri Sridhar Sir, FIBA Commissioner. The tournament was declared OPEN by Chief Guest Shri Sanjay Raj, a former Basketball player.

The opening ceremony began with the hoisting of the CBSE flag followed by a welcome speech by the Principal of DPS Bangalore South. In her speech, the Principal emphasized the importance of sports in the holistic development of students and urged the participants to play with sportsmanship and spirit. The Chief Guest, Shri Sanjay Raj, then addressed the gathering and shared his own experiences as a basketball player. He motivated the participants to give their best and strive for excellence. The Guest of Honour, Shri Ramesh Menon, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of sports in promoting physical fitness and mental well-being. He also commended the organizing school for their efforts in hosting the tournament. The students were addressed by the Principal Ms Anitha Bijesh during the Opening Ceremony.

The final match was held on the 31st of October 2023 at the school premises. The final girls’ match that was held was between Delhi Public School, Bangalore East, and Delhi Public School, Bangalore, South. In an interesting match Delhi Public School, Bangalore South defeated Delhi Public School, Bangalore East.

The final match between the boy’s schools was a riveting match between National Public School, Koramangala, and Delhi Public School, Bangalore, South. In this very compelling and engrossing match Delhi Public School, Bangalore, South defeated National Public School, Koramangala.

Shri K Rahman Khan, former Union Minister of Minority Affairs and Ex-Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha who is also the honorable Chairman of KKECT, and Pro Vice Chairman DPS Bangalore and Mysore was present during the final tournament along with the Principal of Delhi Public School. Bangalore South, Ms Anitha Bijesh.

The CBSE Cluster 8 Basketball Tournament is a prestigious event that brings together some of the best basketball players from the region. The tournament provides a platform for young players to showcase their talent and compete at a high level. The tournament is also a great opportunity for players to learn from each other and improve their skills. The tournament is a testament to the school’s dedication to promoting sports and developing young talent.
